A Way to Increase Profits

One Freelancer's Perspective

I don't know if this is any sort of ground breaking advice that hasn't been preached over and over again to new freelance writers all over the web. Most likely, it probably isn't.

I don't intend on selling this advice nor do I ask for anything in return. I only offer this advice because I want to help as many people as possible realize their freelance dreams.

The secret to making any significant amount of money on the web via freelance writing is to never stop writing. Write, write, and write, no matter what. Take every opportunity you can to focus on your writing. Everything you see throughout your day should be viewed through a set of eyes looking for inspiration. A good freelance writer can take inspiration from anything. Being able to craft an article, story, manuscript, etc, that anyone will want to read is the test of the freelance writer.

To some on the web, freelance writing is a relaxing hobby. To some writers on the web, freelance writing brings in fifty or sixty bucks a month. But to some, each word is our lives.

It is no secret that the monetary reward for freelance writers is not nearly enough to support a lavish lifestyle, but for the money that a lot of full time freelance writers make it is enough to support a comfortable lifestyle lived wisely.

To begin to start making real money in freelance writing, the freelancer has to understand some certain points about the industry.

First of all, don't settle for just one site or one type of writing. It's awesome if you want to specialize in one form of writing, like ghost writing, resume writing, or blog writing, but you need to learn to open yourself up to more assignments. Work in your particular specialization may not always be available while you're trying to pay your bills and make a living. Start exploring the web for other work at home opportunities. Besides the articles I write for various revenue sharing sites like Hubpages.com I also maintain blogs on Blogger.com, manage a social network on Ning.com, write often for AssociatedContent.com, and participate in social lending investments. In addition to these sites that allow me to control what content I post I am also a member of various sites that allow freelancers to complete projects for specific clients. On days when I am being slapped around by writer's block the project posting sites are nice because my work is guided by the desire of a client. On days when I just want to write so that the world can hear my voice, I choose sites like Hub Pages, Helium, and Associated Content.

Even though several sites allow writers to post previously posted content from other sites, I try to avoid this as much as I can. From an Internet marketing stand point, an Internet user is more likely to keep the next page of my content open longer if the content has not been read yet. If, however, an Internet user realizes that the content was copied from the page he or she has just read then that window will promptly be closed and the likelihood of that user clicking on further articles under my name is lessened. Let's not forget to mention the fact that Internet advertisers to not pay for content producers who can make Internet users open as many browser tabs as possible, Internet advertisers pay for content that can keep a potential Internet shopper online as long as possible while he or she is barraged with ads.

I enjoy freelance writing because I think that it is challenging yet satisfying. I enjoy having to come up with strategies to increase my profits while crafting content that people will want to read. Every word I type is a word typed strategically. I enjoy exploring the web for the next money making opportunity. I enjoy sifting through result after result of work at home sites on the hunt for the one that isn't a scam. There is a certain amount of risk that goes with being an online freelance writer. We put so much of ourselves online that identity theft becomes an increased risk. The Internet also tests our thick skin and ability to take criticism by making it so simple for readers to respond to what we write.

I enjoy waking up every morning to watch my page views on different sites increase and royalty payments make their way into my Pay Pal account. Am I rich? Not by a long shot, but I do have something that even a lot of rich people don't have, options and time. I used to want to be filthy rich so that I could have the kind of freedom that freelance writing has given me. After making the great leap of faith into freelance writing, I see no reason to ever want to be filthy rich. Don't get me wrong, if I won the lottery tomorrow I wouldn't tear up the ticket, but it's just nice to be at a point in my life where I want to be.

This new way of thinking and dealing with my freelance writing has opened me up to dozens of new experiences and ideas that I don't ever think I would have been opened up to if I never would have left behind my frustrating government job.

I'm not saying to up and quit your day job, especially if you're on the fence about becoming a full time freelance writer. I am saying that freelance writing offers more options to people than they may think. I am saying that there are legitimate resources that exist to facilitate making money online. Take advantage of every legitimate opportunity you can get your hands on, but do remember to do your research. If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. Turn off your filters and start writing whatever comes into your head. Write about what you saw on the bus today or where you plan on taking your next vacation. Write about a job you think you would like to learn more about or write about the new game you just downloaded to your cell phone.

It doesn't really matter exactly what it is you decide to write, only that what you write is original, well researched, and comes from the heart.
